Security guards help ensure the safety of property, employees and residents. Workers patrol and monitor a wide variety of settings, including shopping malls, banks, entertainment venues, transportation facilities, public museums and hospitals. Security guards deter crime, enforce laws and provide other protective services. 

Joint Associates Center for Training has been active with the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. Our instructors have provided training to hundreds of officers each year as well as provided Executive Management services for companies providing services in the state of Oregon.

Joint Associates Instructors will comply with all statutory requirements and process for certification are outlined in ORS 181.870-181-991 and ORS Division 60, 259-060-0015 and 259-060-0450.

Initial certification requirements for unarmed security professional certification are as follows:
• Successfully complete the required 14 hours of unarmed security professional training, consisting of, eight (10) hours of classroom instruction and four (4) hours of assessment. The original copy of the PS6 (training affidavit) must be enclosed submitted to DPSST.
• Obtain required fingerprints. Fingerprints must be taken on DPSST-supplied fingerprint cards. A PS4 form must be completed and enclosed in a tamperproof bag along with the fingerprint cards for submittal to DPSST.
• Complete and submit the PS1 (application form). The application must be totally completed, signed. 
• Submit appropriate fees for unarmed security professional certification. Currently, fees are for a two-year certification. First time applicants must also submit a fee for processing of fingerprint cards.
