It's essential that you have some basic principles of wilderness first aid and know how to apply them, even under stress. Even knowing how to treat minor injuries can make a difference in a emergency situation. This course is for those in wilderness recreation in the outdoors and also meets the needs of volunteers and professionals who lead groups on to short trips with relatively low risk

Although not as immersive as our 2 Day Wilderness First Aid/ CPR Course there are still innumerable injuries and ailments that could affect you or those in your group, as long as you learn the basic principles of first aid, you can apply them to almost any situation.

Basic Wilderness First Aid - BWFA (8 hours) is an entry level course for those who are involved in wilderness activities. This course is the choice of many youth groups of recreational skiers, climbers, mountaineers, and hiking trail guides. Basic first aid skills will be taught in the classroom and/or practiced hands-on in the wilderness environment. 

Lecture and discussion, practical exercise and outdoor scenarios help students gain confidence, and encourage the development of basic decision making skills. After successful completion students are certified for 2 years in Basic Wilderness First Aid by the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI), a nationally recognized organization.

Skills covered will include: 
Patient assessment
Recognizing and treating shock
Bandaging and bleeding control
Splinting fractures, sprains and dislocations
Medical emergencies
Identifying various medical problems
Using non-standard and improvised equipment
Stabilization techniques

Adult CPR and AED is recommended. 
Basic First Aid is recommended.

Course Completion Time: 8 Hours 
Successful completion is based on achievement of the core learning objectives and skills demonstration rather than a prescribed instruction time. Actual times may vary.
